Lawfton Edwards

Lawfton Edwards, Tecumseh, OK resident, passed away on November 10, 2023 in Tecumseh at the age of 74.  Lawfton was born on September 11, 1949 in Eloy, AZ to Lawrence Edwards Sr. and Eliza (Davis) Edwards.  He grew up in Brooksville, OK and was a 1969 graduate of Macomb High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy.

Lawfton married Shirley Stargell Nash on September 22, 1972.  They were married for 45 years.  They were certified foster parents.  They had more than 50 children in their home.  Lawfton was also a devoted member of Emmanuel Temple of Praise and Deliverance.  He served as Deacon and also as a minister.  He taught Sunday School. He was a machine operator at Eaton Corporation for 27 years. Lawfton was known for his love of helping others.

Lawfton is survived by his sons, Terrence Stargell, Elijah Stargell and James Nash; daughters, Dominique Pratt and Gloria Goudge; brothers, Bill Edwards and wife, Susie of CA, Johnny Edwards of AZ, Franklin Edwards and wife, Patricia of OK, Julius Edwards of Shawnee, Louie Edwards of Shawnee and Lesle B. Edwards of Shawnee; sisters, Lydian Halloway and husband, James of AZ and Valerie Bridgewater and husband, Odie of Shawnee; special nephew, Eric Stargell; special nieces, Erica Richardson and Britney Nutt; grandchildren, Aalyiah, Divyon, Karssarah, Sunni, Spyder, Dylan, Desriel, Alakai, Forest Nash, Desiree and Victoria; a number of great grandchildren; a host of cousins and many other family and friends.

Lawfton was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; 2 brothers and his son, Joenathan Stargell.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Emmanuel Temple of Praise and Deliverance in Shawnee, OK.  Pastor Odell Hardeman will officiate.  Interment will follow at Brooksville Cemetery in Brooksville, OK.
