Larry Don Rundle

July 2, 1937 — August 27, 2020

Larry Don Rundle was born in Seminole, Oklahoma on July 2, 1937 to parents Donald Leon and LoRene Dawn (Byrne) Rundle.  He left Stillwater, Oklahoma to go home and be with the Lord on August 27th, 2020.

He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Elaine Rundle, daughter Kitti Rundle of Port Charlotte, Florida, son Kelly Rundle and wife Tami of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, son Bobby Rundle of Roseville, California, brother Doug Rundle and wife Juvata of Seminole, Oklahoma, eight grandchildren; Rikki Hale, Courtney Dickensheet and husband Dan, Brian Rundle, Melissa Rundle, Zach Rundle, Gracie Ruth Rundle, Matthew Rundle and Gracie Rundle, three great grandchildren; Zak Hale, Kennedy Dickensheet and Madison Dickensheet, three nephews; Kirt Rundle and wife Pita, Russ Rundle and wife Tawn, Jake Hunter and wife Kristin, three nieces; Shaila Ashcraft and husband Randy, Jill Ciomperlik and husband Ross and Jenny Hunter.  Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Lorene Rundle, one daughter Melissa Dawn Rundle (1971) and one son Douglas Duane Rundle (2013).

Larry was an accomplished athlete.  A member of the Seminole High School football Hall of Fame, he passed up being drafted by the New York Yankees to pursue a football scholarship at Oklahoma State University where he also played baseball.  Larry was involved in fitness and was a runner for many years, competing in 5k and 10k runs.  He also became an accomplished, record-setting powerlifter and at the sprite young age of 72, earned his purple belt in Brazilian Jujitsu and competed in his first tournament eventually earning his brown belt.  Larry was an avid hunter throughout his life, sharing that passion with his sons and extended family.  Larry was also a licensed, private pilot who logged over 2500 hours of flight time and flew in tandem with his brother, Doug, to several places across the country to include, Florida, Washington state, Alaska and several “fly-ins” to Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

All of Larry’s accomplishments pale in comparison to the man he was.  He had a lifelong faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior.  His faith never waivered and it showed through in everything he said and did.  A leader and mentor to not only those in his family, but to hundreds, if not thousands of youngsters that he either coached, taught or otherwise influenced through his career as a coach or simply by association with him.  Larry always did the right thing to the best of his ability.  He did not demand perfection, he demanded 100% effort, doing the right thing, and he led by example.  His “Coachisms” have become integrated into the daily vocabulary of countless individuals and his positive influence on everyone he came into contact with is priceless.

Not only was Larry an amazing athlete, an avid hunter, pilot and genuine role model…he was a great man!!
