Kenny Joe Newell, 49, Shawnee, Oklahoma resident, died Friday, February 21, 2014 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Kenny was born February 21, 1965 in Norman, Oklahoma to Kaye Donna (Jarrell) and Terry Joe Newell. Kenny grew up in Shawnee and attended Strother High School, northeast of Seminole. Kenny was the valedictorian of his graduating class in 1983. Kenny was an active member of the Walnut Street Church of Christ in Seminole. During his work career he was a self-employed welder. He also did construction work, farmed and raised cattle in western Oklahoma. Kenny is survived by his father and step-mother Terry Joe and Jo Ann Newell of Shawnee, Oklahoma; a son, Jesse Newell of Sweetwater, Oklahoma, a daughter Jill Newell of Edmond, Oklahoma; sister and brother-in-law, Donnita and Terry Ward of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Terri Newell of Orange, Texas; and sister, Lori Mathews of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; grandfather, Kenneth Jarrell of Stratford, Oklahoma; several nephews, nieces, aunts, cousins and many friends. The family would like to thank our many friends for their prayers, love and support during Kenny's illness. We would also like to recognize and thank Wendy Ayres, a friend and occupational therapist, who unselfishly helped with his care during his recent illness and hospital stays. Kenny was preceded in death by his mother, Kaye Donna Newell in 1995, his maternal grandmother, Jewell Jarrell, and his paternal grandparents, Joe and Elizabeth Newell. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma, with burial following at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
