Kay (Gentry) Magruder

January 18, 1935 — December 24, 2020

Seminole

Kay (Gentry) Magruder, 84, longtime Seminole resident, passed away December 24, 2020 in Shawnee, OK. Kay was born January 18, 1935 in Cox City, OK to Charles D. and Evelyn (Simms) Gentry.

Kay moved to Seminole after the 4th grade during the oil boom in Seminole. Going to Seminole High School she met her sweetheart, Bill Magruder. Together they were on the go cart circuit, square dancing and loved the outdoors, enjoying a good turkey shoot. After having Kathy, Donna, and Mike they were always seen together going to ball games cheering the kids on.

Kay’s passion for books brought her to work for numerous libraries for 25 years, secretary at Swearingen Funeral Home, and then her final years as senior director at the City of Seminole Senior Citizen Center.

Kay was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church-Seminole. Kay was apart of numerous organizations: Camp Fire USA, Oklahoma, Colorado, and New Mexico Library Association, and the Red River Women’s Club.

She was the biggest OU Women’s Basketball fan, she hardly missed a game!

Every year she would pack up with Donna and head to Grand Canyon and Estes Park to explore her favorite places in the world, capturing it all on her camera.

Her passion for books was passed down to Katelyn and her love for photography was passed down to Mallory.

Kay is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, and numerous aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her sister Deborah Rankin and husband Rocky of Coppell, TX, daughters Kathy Magruder of Albuquerque, NM and Donna Magruder of Seminole, OK, son Mike Magruder and wife Lynn of Seminole, OK, grandson Steve Mulkey of Albuquerque, NM, and granddaughters Katelyn Magruder of Guthrie, OK and Mallory Magruder of Broken Bow, OK, niece Jennifer Rankin and nephew Brian Rankin, and numerous cousins and dear friends.

Because of COVID Kay would not want anyone to gather until everyone was safe so memorial services will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Bills hiking trial, Friends of Sugarite State Park, HCR 63, Box 386, Raton, NM 87740.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
