Kay Don Goss

Kay Don “Kay D.” Goss, 85 year old lifelong Maud, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  He was born February 7, 1933 in Maud, Oklahoma to parents Hurshel Henry Goss and Crystal Cecil (VanMeter) Goss. Kay D. grew up in Maud where his parents owned and operated Goss Dry Goods.  The store had a fine history being a family owned operation.  Kay D. graduated from Maud High School in 1951 and went on to further his education at OSU. Kay D. enlisted in the United States Army where he served a four year tour. Upon returning to Maud he along with his wife Darlene Goss continued operating Goss Dry Goods and Kay D. had also began raising quarter horses, establishing Goss Quarter Horse Ranch. Kay D. had always been active in community activities.  He was a member of the Maud Round-up Club, The Maud Masonic Lodge, Maud Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Scout Master for the Boy Scouts and had also served on the Maud School Board.  The Goss family was also charter members of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Maud. Although Kay D. attended OSU, he was a season ticket holder for all OU games and a huge fan. The entire Goss family has been a true icon in the town of Maud since 1928 when Kay D.’s father, Hurshel moved the family there in a covered wagon to open the dry goods store. Survivors include 2 sons; Steve Goss and his wife Terrie of Maud, Oklahoma.  Their son Justin Goss and his wife Andrea of Newcastle, Oklahoma.  Son, David Goss and his wife Angelia of Norman, Oklahoma and their children, Joseph Blake Goss of Norman, Oklahoma and Zachery Allen Goss of Norman, Oklahoma; Kay D. is also survived by a host of other family and friends. Kay D. was preceded in death by his parents, Hurshel and Crystal Goss, by one son Van H. Goss who died August 30, 1985, by one grandson Cody Alan Goss who died August 5, 2014, by one brother Bill Goss who died December 25, 1958, by one sister-in-law, Martha (Root) Goss who died December 31, 1995, and by his former wife and the mother of his children, Darlene (Lawson) Goss who died October 31, 2013. The family will be receiving friends Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating the service.  Interment will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud, Oklahoma where Kay D. will be laid to rest in the Goss family plot. Serving as casket bearers are: Steve Goss, David Goss, Justin Goss, Blake Goss, Zachery Goss and Kenneth Kiker.
