Kathie Harjo-Hurst

Kathie Jean (Harjo) Hurst, 53 year-old, lifelong Maud, Oklahoma resident passed from this life Sunday, October 16, 2011 at her home in Maud.  She was born January 30, 1958 in Honey Grove, Texas to parents Mary Ellen (Scott) Harjo and Jonases “Smokey” Harjo. Kathie attended Maud Schools and was a member of Achena Presbyterian Church. A wake service is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at the Church of Christ located at the corner of South Oxford and Elm Street in Maud. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the Church of Christ in Maud with Rev. Houston Tiger, Jemsey Harjo and Todd Tiffin officiating.  Interment will follow at the family cemetery southeast of Maud. Casket bearers will be: Jeremiah Harjo, George Codd, Jacob Harjo, Bubba Phelps, Chuddo Williams and Keitha Williams. Honorary bearers will be: Bubba Watson, Curtis Gentry, Sonny Turnbow, Eric Powell, Lindsey Bondoni, Albert Curley, Josh Blankenship, David Harris and Michael Morgan. Survivors include her Fiancé, Mike Steele of Maud, Oklahoma; one son, Keelan Paschal of Wewoka, Oklahoma; one daughter, Elizabeth Harrison of Wewoka, Oklahoma; two brothers, Leon Harjo and Randy Harjo both of Maud, Oklahoma; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Joanna Harjo-Gentry and her husband Curtis Gentry of Asher, Oklahoma, Rita Harjo-Phelps and David Harris of Maud, Oklahoma, Jeannette Harjo-Codd and her husband George Codd of Staten Island, New York, Toni Harjo and Michael Morgan of Seminole, Oklahoma, Tiffany Harjo of Blackwell, Oklahoma and Lisa Masingill of Richmond, Kansas; 16 nieces and nephews and a host of other family and dear friends. Kathie is preceded in death by her grandfather, Lee Harjo who died in 1986; her father Jonases “Smokey” Harjo who died in 1989; her mother Mary Harjo who died in 2000; and by one sister, Rosie Harjo who died in 2009.
