Katherine Deere

September 6, 1942 — February 3, 2021

Katherine Deere, Tecumseh resident, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, at the age of 78.  Katherine was born on September 6, 1942 in Seminole, Oklahoma and was adopted and raised by Jackson and Inez (Mitchell) Deere. She was a graduate of Seminole High School and later attended Haskell Vocational School.  Upon completion of Haskell she married and lived in Dallas, TX, where she worked at Texas Instruments and later moved back to her hometown.

Katherine was the type of person who would do anything for just about anyone who was in need.  She was a one of a kind person whose smile could light up the room and her heart was full of love. She was there if you just needed someone to listen and if there was any advice she could give or a story to tell she would share her knowledge.  Katherine had the ability to envision an idea and create it.  She also enjoyed sewing and making Seminole patchwork. Katherine was admired by so many and the love she had for her family and friends ran deep.  She will be missed dearly by all.

Katherine is survived by her son, Forrest Atkins of Garland, TX; daughter, Pamela Hurst of Tecumseh, OK; brother, Larry Deere of Oklahoma City, OK; five grandchildren, Ariana Hurst, Preston Hurst, Cheyenne Atkins, Somer Atkins and Jared Atkins; two great grandchildren, Julius Atkins and Alex Atkins and many other family and friends.

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Wizey Mitchell, Joanne Gentry and Lucy Harjo; two brothers, Hershel Mitchel and Barney Mitchel; son, Keith Atkins and son-in-law, Randell Hurst.
