Wewoka resident, Mattie Katherene Seawright, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024, in Midwest City.
Katherene, the daughter of Aaron and Opal (Deen) James, was born March 14, 1933, in Yellville, Arkansas. On April 14, 1952, she married Abner Seawright Jr., in Flippin, Arkansas. Katherene was a faithful preacher’s wife; she enjoyed music and would play piano at churches where Jr. was the pastor. In addition to music, she enjoyed gardening and crocheting, doing family history work, and she was an avid reader. Until health issues made it too difficult, Katherene was a member of the Cromwell Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her siblings, Don Roy James, Glen Deen James, and Jannalee Proctor.
Katherene is survived by her children, Gerald and Marsha Seawright, of Wewoka, and Milynda and Larry Kelley, of Flippin, Arkansas; grandchildren, Jennifer and Chris Roe, Matthew and Kecia Seawright, Melissa and Tom Osborn, and Shawna and Dietric Little; great grandchildren, Andrew Roe, Ellis Roe, Tristan Little, Ethan Dearman, Emily Dearman, Brianne Little, Olivia Dearman, Sophie Dearman, Oakley Seawright, Leland Seawright, Marlie Seawright, and Scotlyn Seawright; a great great grandson, Artie Dearman; and many other family members and friends.
A graveside service will be Monday, May 6, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Little Cemetery, in Seminole, Oklahoma, with Carl Whitfield officiating. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
