Herb Walker, age 79 and a lifelong resident of Konawa, Oklahoma passed away on Monday, February 20, 2012 at Solara Hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 23 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa. Rev. Pam Shirk, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Konawa will officiate, and Rev. Mike DeMoss will assist. Burial will follow at Konawa Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the United Methodist Men. Herb was born on August 16, 1932 in Riviera, Texas to J. Herbert Walker and Ophelia (Rhodes) Walker. He married Yvonne Johnson on December 21, 1956 in Konawa. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from East Central University of Ada, Oklahoma, and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He spent 36 years as a rural mail carrier for the Konawa area, and was also a farmer. Herb was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Konawa, the American Legion, United Methodist Men, and the Rural Letter Carriers Association. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Walker of the home; one son, Darrel Walker and wife, Lani of Konawa; one daughter, Emily Fixico and husband, Stan of Konawa; two sisters, Joy Dyer and husband, Frank of Blackwell, Oklahoma and Lenora Barnett of Hobbs, New Mexico; four grandchildren, Meagan and Kirsten Walker, Jessica Fixico, and Erin Mitchell and husband, Glenn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Ophelia Walker; and two sisters, Patricia Walker and Mary Lou Hobbs.
