John Thoma

John Raymond Thoma, 67, longtime Seminole resident died Friday, June 4, 2010 in Seminole. John was born July 21, 1942 in Seminole, Oklahoma to John S. and Mary Anlee (Hyatt) Thoma. John grew up in Seminole and attended and graduated from Strothers High School where he just celebrated his 50th class reunion. John served in the U.S. Army National Guard for six years and attained the rank of sergeant. John was retired from Tinker Air Force Base where he was a parts inspector for over 20 years. John also spent many years helping his father-in-law, Lynn Loy, at Little Cemetery with care-taking duties. John was a member of the Church of Christ here in Seminole and an active participant at the “Heritage House” in Seminole, where he had served as President of the Site Council.  John loved to bake cookies, and did so for family, friends, bake sales and the Heritage House. He was known for having some of the best tasting cookies around. John was always doing something for someone else. “A true servant,” he loved to fix things for those who needed his help and were unable to do for themselves. John was an avid fisherman and loved his family and grandchildren dearly. John will be greatly missed. John was married to Judy Lynn (Loy) Thoma on August 17, 1962 in Seminole, Oklahoma. John is survived by his wife Judy Thoma of the home, Two daughters and sons-in-law; Shari and Jack Ames of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Shelli and Mark Freeman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is also survived by four brothers Jimmie Thoma of New Mexico, Harrel Thoma of Bowlegs, Oklahoma, Henry Thoma Prague, Oklahoma, and Johnnie Lee Thoma of Prague, Oklahoma. Five sisters; Reba Searcy of Del City, Oklahoma, Aline Robbins of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, Joann Kirkham of Woodward, Oklahoma, Ann Lee Hopkins of Enid, Oklahoma and Norma June Scott of Canton, Oklahoma and a Sister-in-law; Delila Loy of McAlister,Oklahoma.  He is also survived by his grandchildren Kari Ames and Dustin Ames, Holly Elmore and Dillon Elmore, Kasey Freeman and Kaitlyn Freeman, Brad Hodges and Ashley Barker all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and a great grandson Broady Hodges. Several nieces and nephews also survive him. His parents, a brother Sylvester Thoma and a sister, Baby Girl Thoma, preceded him in death. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at the Church of Christ at 4200 Highway 99N in Seminole. Chris Stinnett will be officiating the service. Memorial donations may be made to the Church of Christ Building Fund or the Heritage House. Funeral services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
