John Stephen McClure

John Stephen “Steve” McClure, age 68 and a former longtime resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2012 at the Church of Christ of Konawa under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.  Burial will follow at Violet Springs Cemetery.  Richard Winters will officiate.  Pallbearers are nephews, Jeff McClure, Joshua McClure, Zachary McClure, Niles Johnson, Beau Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Keaton Marriott, Greg Brandon, and Will Spain.  Honorary pallbearers are Danny Khoury, Barry Streetman, Mark Stoup, Aaron Isaacs, Van Chew, and Roger Harrod. Steve was born on July 11, 1944 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to J. C. “Sandy” McClure and Celia Ruth (Enlow) McClure.  Steve was a 1962 Konawa High School graduate where he lettered in four sports and represented the American Legion at Boys State.  Also, Steve was an Eagle Scout.  He graduated from East Central University of Ada, Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business.  While at East Central University, he played baseball two years for the college.  Steve also served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from November, 1968 to November, 1970.  Alongside his father, he operated the family business, McClure Oil Company and McClures Convenience Store for forty-two years.  He was recently voted in by the Konawa Chamber of Commerce as the 2013 Konawa Citizen of the Year for “a lifetime of friendship, loyalty and service to our community.”  Steve served on the Board of Directors for Sooner State Bank for seventeen years.  Steve married Sherrill (Muggy) Patterson on December 16, 2011 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.                                                    He is survived by his wife, Sherrill McClure of the home; his mother, Ruth McClure of Konawa; one son, Brett Patterson of Tulsa; one daughter, Jill Taylor and husband, James of Tulsa; one brother, Roger McClure and wife, Mary Ruth of Konawa; two sisters, Sandra Johnson and husband, Arthur of Konawa, and Rebecca Marriott and husband, Robert of Norman, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Lexi Norell and husband, Josh, and Riley Taylor, Olivia Taylor, and Kali Patterson; seven nephews, Jeff McClure and wife, Jinger, Joshua McClure, Zachary McClure, Niles Johnson, Beau Johnson, Kyle Johnson, and Keaton Marriott and Jessica; and two nieces, Lezlea Brandon and husband, Greg, and Steffan Spain and husband, Will. He was preceded in death by his father, Sandy McClure.
