John Bryant McCartlin

John Bryant McCartlin, 51 year old, Shawnee, Oklahoma resident passed from this life on Monday, January 18, 2016 at Norman Regional Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma.  He was born December 26, 1964 in Dallas, Texas to parents, Glen McCartlin and Maggie (Smith) McCartlin. John participated in a program at St. Gregory’s in Shawnee called, “Home Integrations Supported Living”.  The program, thanks to Father Paul Zahel O.S.B. along with his support team, gave so much of themselves to provide opportunities for the disabled. John liked to travel, go to movies, attend birthday parties, and Church.  He also liked to visit the Second Chance Animal Shelter.  John enjoyed swimming, playing games, fishing and riding horses at St. Gregory’s. The family wishes to thank Father Paul Zahel O.S.B. and the people who gave of themselves, time, love and encouragement to John. “Home Integrations Supported Living,” has been a true blessing to our family. Survivors include four sisters, Maxine Clifford and her husband Tom Clifford of Pine Ridge, South Dakota, Constance Thlocco and her husband Bryant of Kansas City, Missouri, Sheila Hooper and her husband Tim of Maud, Oklahoma, and Pauline Francis Smith of Omaha, Nebraska; niece, Annie Horton and Scott Horton of Seminole, Oklahoma; nephew, Justin Hooper and his wife Jennifer of Seminole, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces and nephews from South Dakota and Kansas City, Missouri; and many other family and dear friends. John was preceded in death by his father, Glen McCartlin; by his mother, Pauline “Maggie” Smith; and by three brothers, Leo Wise, Leon Wise, and James Smith. The family will receive friends at Swearingen Funeral Home, Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., January 19, 2016. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Rev. Bill Barnett and Father Paul Zahel O.S.B. officiating the service.  Interment will be at Vamoosa Cemetery located south of Seminole. Casket Bearers will be: Tim Hooper, Don Hightower, Tony Hightower, Sid Shankas, Justin Hooper and Stephen Whinter. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
