John Edmond Massay was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on December 2, 1932. John was the son of William Hazel Massay and Mavis (Ivey) Massay. John passed away, Sunday, March 11, 2018 in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 85. John moved to Seminole in 1942 and lived in Seminole till 1981 when he moved to Edmond, Oklahoma. While in Seminole, John and Dee raised Arabian Horses as a business and served two terms as President of the Arabian Horse Association. John was a big Oklahoma University football fan, loved nature and his two dogs. John graduated from Seminole High School in 1952 and was active in varsity football, basketball and tennis. John was inducted to the Seminole High School Hall of Fame in 2012. John entered the United States Navy in 1952 upon graduation from high school, and served till 1955 in the Navy Air Corp. John was in the Insurance business for many years working for Standard Life Insurance Company, in Oklahoma City, and then purchased Ned Parry Insurance Agency, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, which he owned for many years, John sold the agency in the early 1980’s. John was always the “man we couldn’t live without” who did so much quietly behind the scenes for the Dee-Ann Studio of Dance in Seminole, Oklahoma and Massay’s DanceStar Productions of Norman, Oklahoma and for Kim Massay Dance Productions of Edmond, Oklahoma. Several years before his retirement, he really got busy assisting with Stage One National Dance Competitions with his son Greg. The legacy John leaves in the family dance business will never be forgotten and will be so missed. A great man has left the stage. He married Delores “Dee” Jean Massay on August 18, 1955 in Seminole, Oklahoma. John is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dee Massay of Norman, Oklahoma, his daughter Kim S. Massay of Edmond, Oklahoma and his son and daughter-in-law, Gregory S. and Rockie Massay, his five grandchildren, Star Massay Clark, Skye Massay Cook, Stori Vincent, John Wyatt Massay and Reagan Massay, three great grandchildren, Indy Belle Clark, Wrigley and Ivey Vincent, and his brother Bob Massay of Seminole, Oklahoma and many friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bill Massay and Jim Massay. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, March 15, 2018 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma, to celebrate John’s life. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, Oklahoma. Jamie Perryman of Grove, Oklahoma will officiate at the funeral service. John will also be buried with United States Naval honors. Casket bearers will be Greg Massay, John Wyatt Massay, Brad Wright, Lance Wright, Brandon Vincent, Rick Henke. Honorary bearers will be Bob Massay, Herman Wright, Crawford West, Shawn Clark and Larry LeBarre. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
