Former School Superintendent, John Eworth Hamilton, Jr., age 76 and resident of Asher, Oklahoma, passed from this life July 9, 2018 at Integris Southwest Medical Center of Oklahoma City surrounded by his family. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Asher under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Burial will follow at Vista Cemetery, and Scott Hamilton and Randy Dirrim will officiate. Casket bearers are Jason Hamilton, Scott Tulane, Jarris Hamilton, Jake Hamilton, Patch Hamilton, and Tahlan Hamilton. Honorary bearers are Jack Coker, Dee Follis, Darl Fowler, Cliff Honeycutt, Tom Larman, Henry Neely, Doc Perry, James Tomlinson, Marco Solor, and Hugh Pool. Visitation will be at Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. John was born March 26, 1942 in Wright City, Oklahoma to John Eworth Hamilton, Sr. and Lona “Gusta” (McKee) Hamilton. John married Reva Dean Rutledge May 8, 1963 in Durant, Oklahoma. They moved to Asher in 1977, where they have made their home for the last forty-one years. He received a Master's Degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University of Weatherford, Oklahoma. He served in the public school system as an administrator, teacher, and coach for thirty-seven years, and after twenty-three years of service at Asher, John retired as Superintendent of Asher Schools. He also served as the past President of the Organization for Rural Oklahoma Schools. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Asher where he led the music for numerous years. He loved the Lord and his church family. He is survived by the love of his life for fifty-seven years, Reva Hamilton of the home; two sons, Scott Hamilton and wife, Billie of Durant, Oklahoma, and Jason Hamilton and wife, Cara of Madill, Oklahoma; one daughter, Teri Tulane and husband, Scott of Luther, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren Jarris Hamilton, Jake Hamilton, Patch Hamilton, Khrystin Hamilton, Madison Hamilton, Tahlan Hamilton, Tannah Hamilton, Brody Hamilton, and Emily Tulane; one sister, Anne Scott of Ada, Oklahoma; and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gusta Hamilton, Sr., and three sisters, Alice Hamilton, Jeanie Pendergrass, and Mary Hodges.
