John T. Guthrie, Jr., (known as “Bud” to his mom and step-dad and known as “Jac” by his friends) age 55, and a former resident of Konawa, Oklahoma passed away at his home in Oklahoma City. A memorial service will be planned at a later date, and cremation is under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. “Bud” was born in Throckmorton, Texas, to John Guthrie, Sr. and Charla Ann (Bruner) McGee. He graduated from Konawa High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree from Platt College in Oklahoma City. He was a Creative Director of Decor and Entertainment for Tours and Event Planning. He and his work have been featured in the “Experience South Florida” magazine. One of his first professional posts was a foray into the Far East as a designer for home interior design accessories and holiday decor in the Orient. Bud lived in Florida for over twenty years traveling as a designer and setting up trade shows for a company in New York. He became the consummate Special Event Professional of his time. His passion was to keep current on industry trends and was never afraid to ask for opinions or ideas. He loved to bring his client’s goals to reality through careful planning and creative solutions. He is survived by his mother and step-father, Bill and Charla McGee of Konawa; two sisters, Pam Davis of Weatherford, Texas and Lisa Griffin of Stratford, Oklahoma; three nieces; two nephews; and a host of family and friends.
