John Edward Compton, 62 year old Seminole, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Monday, July 4, 2016 at his home in Seminole. He was born April 29, 1954 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to parents, John Allen Compton and Delora Earnestine (Anderson) Compton. John graduated from High School in 1972 from Little Kansas, Oklahoma near Jay, Oklahoma. He then went on to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam era earning the rank of Sergeant. He traveled all over during his time in the Army with a special rodeo unit that would compete in all rodeo events to promote the United States Army. On July 15, 2000, John married Cindy Melton in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. John was a member of the Citizen Pottawatomi Nation of Oklahoma. He worked for Restek Industries where he was a project manager where he worked for the past 23 years. The company specializes in concrete restoration for airports, bridges, and John was proud of his concrete work on the University of Oklahoma campus, since he was such a huge OU fan. John loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with his grandson. He also enjoyed raising his horses, cattle and going fishing. To know John was to love him. He was always willing to help anyone in need. Survivors include his wife, Cindy (Melton) Compton of the home; his father, John Allen Compton of Ponca City, Oklahoma; two daughters, Lasey Compton of Blanchard, Oklahoma, Jody Compton of Seminole, Oklahoma; one brother, Richard Compton of Newkirk, Oklahoma; four sisters, Anita Harmon of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Katy Nichols of Berryville, Arkansas, A. Marie Shaw of Yukon, Oklahoma, Judeth “Judy” Compton of Shawnee, Oklahoma; one grandchild, Laidan Jon Keochanthanivong; and a host of other family and dear friends. John was preceded in death by his mother, Delora Earnestine (Anderson) Compton. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Swearingen Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2016 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating the service. Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, July 8, 2016 at Grandview Cemetery in Kaw City, Oklahoma, located north of Ponca City. The family has requested that donations be directed to Swearingen Funeral Home, 1001 N. Milt Phillips Ave. in Seminole, Oklahoma 74868, in memory of John Compton to help with funeral expenses.
