Joe “Earl” Payne, age 70 and a life-long resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away March 8, 2019 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Rev. Ronald Gadberry, Pastor of the Pentecostal Holiness Church of Konawa will officiate, and burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Casket bearers are Bruce Herrion, C. J. Hudson, Trey Rogers, Daniel Khoury, Jr., Larry Nickell, Leonard Palmer, and Jeffery King. Earl was born April 27, 1948 in Konawa to Harvey Young Payne and Dorsey Alma (Starkey) Payne. He graduated from Konawa High School in 1966, and he worked many years as a sales clerk for Khoury Lumber Company. He proudly served in the National Guard in 1967 and 1968, and he was a member of the American Legion. Earl loved sports, and he loved woodworking. Most of all, he loved to spoil Charles’ and Mary’s grandchildren. He is survived by one brother, Charles Payne and wife, Mary of Konawa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Dorsey Payne, and three brothers, James Howard Payne, Glenford “Rex” Payne, and Harley Allen Payne.
