JoAnn (Turpen) Smith, 80 year old longtime Seminole County, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at her home in Seminole. She was born February 22, 1937 in Atoka, Oklahoma to parents Ransom Turpen and Bessie (Settlemire) Turpen. On August 5, 1953, JoAnn married Weldon Leroy “Smitty” Smith in Roswell, New Mexico. JoAnn was a homemaker and she was also the bookkeeper for her husband’s plumbing business, “Smitty’s Plumbing”. JoAnn was a member of the Seminole Church of Christ. Survivors include three sons, Dale Smith, Donald Smith and Doyle Smith all of Seminole, Oklahoma and by one sister, Judy Pratt of Texas. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 57 years, “Smitty” Smith, by one daughter Debra Kay Smith and by two sisters, Mildred Meaders and Wilimay Cannaday. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 7, 2017 at Little Cemetery Chapel located in Little Cemetery north of Seminole, Oklahoma. JoAnn will be laid to rest next to her husband following the service. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
