Jewell (Hurst) Osborn, 87 year old longtime Seminole County, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Rose Manor Care Center in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She was born January 1, 1930 in Maud, Oklahoma to parents John Charles Hurst and Ethel Grace (Bowers) Hurst. Jewell graduated as valedictorian from Maud High School in 1947 and went on to attend college. She worked as a bookkeeper for Mr. Fay Cheatham in Seminole until her retirement. In 1948 Jewell married Talmadge Aughtry “T.A.” Rhodes. Survivors include two sons, John H. Rhodes of Seminole, Oklahoma, Bobby J. Rhodes of Seminole, Oklahoma; one daughter, Wanda K. “Susie” Smith of Mount Ida, Arkansas; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other family and dear friends, including Judy Bussey of Seminole, Oklahoma. Jewell was preceded in death by her parents, John Charles Hurst and Ethel Grace (Bowers) Hurst; by her first husband and the father of her children, Talmadge Aughtry “T.A.” Rhodes; by two brothers, James “Red” Hurst and J.C. Hurst; by two sisters, Pearl Bayne and Ruby Wells. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Historic Strother Chapel located in Maple Grove Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Nance officiating the service. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
