Jewel Strayhorn

Longtime Seminole resident, Jewel Strayhorn passed away, Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at the age of 90, where she was currently a resident at Coles Nursing Home in Guthrie, Oklahoma. rnrnShe was born on May 17, 1916 to George Washington and Eva Savannah (Goodman) Cheatham in Rushing, Arkansas. She came to Oklahoma with her family in a covered wagon. rnrnJewel married Shufford R. "Doc" Strayhorn in Okemah in 1932. He preceded her in death in June of 1972. rnrnShe was a cook at Seminole Municipal Hospital from 1970 to 1981. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Seminole.rnrnShe is survived by five grandchildren; Ricky Strayhorn of Seminole, David Strayhorn of Guthrie, Gary Strayhorn of Bowlegs, Randy Strayhorn of Shawnee and Donna Garrett of Texarkanna, Texas. She is also survived by several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.rnrnShe is preceded in death by her parents, husband, S.R. "Doc" Strayhorn, one son, Don Strayhorn, brothers; Amos, Ellis, and Ona Cheatham.rnrnGraveside Services are scheduled for 10:30am, Saturday, September 30, 2006 at Little Cemetery with Rev.
