Jessica E. Coody Burden

April 30, 1951 — March 13, 2018

Jessica Elaine (Coody) Burden, 66 year old Wewoka, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at her home in Wewoka surrounded by her loving family.  She was born April 30, 1951 in Talihina, Oklahoma to parents Jimmy Coody and Amanda Little. Following graduation from Pleasant Grove High School in Seminole County, Jessica went on to attend Business School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  She worked for a number of years at Blue Bell in Seminole, Oklahoma. She then worked at Pioneer Nursing Home in Seminole until her retirement. Jessica married Larry Burden and sadly he preceded her in death on September 18, 1978. Jessica was a member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, the Ceyvha Band. Jessica was a sponsor for the “Little Babes Softball Team” and a member of Kaney Chapel Methodist Church.  She enjoyed watching High School Basketball games and going to numerous Churches.  Most of all she loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren. Survivors include her best friend, Wallace Coon of Wewoka, Oklahoma; 3 sons, Maurice Spencer of Seminole, Oklahoma, Russell Daniels of Wewoka, Oklahoma, Thomas Gentry of Seminole, Oklahoma; 9 daughters, Clarice Wise Talamasy of Seminole, Oklahoma, LaDeana Tiger of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Tommie Burden of Wewoka, Oklahoma, LaSonya O’Guinn of Wewoka, Oklahoma, Sheila Howell of Seminole, Oklahoma, Dawn Foster of Wolf, Oklahoma, Michelle Burden of Wewoka, Oklahoma, Leslie Joshua of Wewoka, Oklahoma and Lakota Joshua of Wewoka, Oklahoma; 2 brothers, Kenneth Coody of Seminole, Oklahoma and Willea Harjo of Maud, Oklahoma; her only surviving uncle Charles Mitchell of Little, Oklahoma; 44 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and a host of other family and dear friends. Jessica was preceded in death by her father Jimmy Coody, by her mother Amanda Little, by 2 sisters Rosanna Jones and Noetta Harjo, by 3 brothers Timothy Harjo, Joe Coody and Robert Coody, by 2 grandchildren Dakota Joshua and Baby Boy O’Guinn, 3 great grandchildren Kayden Tiger, Baby Gentry and Baby Boy Wise Talamasy, by 1 nephew Micco Coody and by a companion Andrew "Andy" Davis. Jessica will be taken to her home at 408 W. 20th Street in Wewoka, Oklahoma on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 for traditional Native American services until Friday, March 16, 2018. Wake services are scheduled for 6:00 p.m., Friday, March 16, 2018 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with Thomas Little, David Little and Jimsey Harjo officiating the service.  Interment will follow at the Coody-Harjo Family Cemetery located southwest of the Mekusukey Mission in Seminole County, Oklahoma. Casket Bearers will be: William Foster, Bill Skip Foster, Kannate Storm Wise Talamasy, Greg Hardin, Kyle Coody and Roger Hulbutta. Honorary Bearers will be: Andrew Burden, Ethan Coody, Timmy Gentry, Tony Gentry, Chris Gentry, Timothy Burden, Ronald O’Guinn Jr., Wally Coon and Jaelin Jones.
