Jerry Lou Tipton, 81, passed from this life on December 12th, 2022, in the comfort of her bed surrounded by her family.
She was born in Lamesa, Texas on December 17th, 1940, to the late Bird and Clara (Works) Owen. At a young age she moved with the family to Earlsboro. OK, where she attended the Prairie View Elementary and Pleasant Grove Schools. Jerry attended and graduated from Seminole High School in 1959. During her high school career, she excelled in vocal music and was selected for All State Chorus her senior year.
She then attended East Central College as a music major. While enrolled at ECC she met and fell in love with her future husband Neill Truman Tipton. The two married on November 25th, 1960, in Oklahoma City.
In 1961, Neill joined the U.S. Army and their life as a military family began. During Neill’s career their family moved to many places; Fort Sill, Baumholder Germany, Seminole (While Neill served in Vietnam and Korea), Fort Bragg, Fort Benning, & lastly Fort Hood. Then the family decided to settle in Kempner, TX.
In 1991, Jerry felt she needed to be closer to her parents in their final years. She then moved back to Seminole and became a caregiver once again.
Jerry is survived by her two siblings, Donald Owen and wife Anita of Emory, TX, Marianna Kay Owen Streets and husband James of Shawnee, OK, as well as her 3 children, Neill Thompson Tipton and his wife Jane of Eldersburg, MD., Christopher Wayne Tipton and his wife Jacqueline of Belize City, BZ, and Kelly Ann Tipton Hankal of Seminole, OK. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Kerry Birger and husband Josh of Eldersburg, MD, Virginia Hair and husband Jeremy of Seminole, OK, Galen Hankal and wife Lezlie of Seminole, OK, Sheena Tanner and fiancée Joel Fukuda of Copperas Cove, TX, Brittany Sauceda and wife Katie of Temple, TX, Kathleen Tipton of Eldersburg, MD. Christopher Ryan Tipton currently stationed in Fort Bragg, NC, and Neill Smith Tipton of Sterling, VA. As well as fifteen great-grandchildren.
During her life Jerry was a musician, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker, seamstress, quilter, but most of all devoted to caring for and loving her family.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 16, 2022, at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
