Jerry Madison Surber , age 85 and a life-long resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away from this life Saturday, October 3, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.
The memorial service which was planned for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel of Konawa has been CANCELLED until further notice due to COVID-19.
Jerry was born October 22, 1934 in Konawa to Roy Surber and Willa (Abbott) Surber. He graduated from Konawa High School, and he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts from East Central University of Ada, Oklahoma. He married Monte Elaine Fry June 20, 1958 at Kathryn P. Boswell Memorial Chapel at East Central University Campus in Ada, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Konawa First Baptist Church, the Lions Club of Konawa, the Soil Conservation District of Konawa, and the Konawa Volunteer Fire Department. Jerry was also a Konawa BancFirst Board Member, and a former Board Member of the Central Oklahoma Family Medical Center of Konawa. Jerry was also a member of the Army Reserves, and he and Monte owned Surber Ford Company of Konawa for many years. Jerry’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, and flying his Cessna airplane.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving wife of sixty-two years, Monte Surber of the home; one son, Michael Surber and wife, Christy of Santa Fe, Texas; one daughter, Sandra Bowers and husband, Derick of Ada, Oklahoma; one sister, Pat Neff of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren, Heath, Brooks, Brittney, Dustin, Scotty, Brady, Gabby, Elizabeth, and Josh; and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Willa Surber; one sister, Billie Wilson; and one niece, Debbie Gibson.
