Jerry Michael Minihan, 82, passed away Sunday, March 4th 2018, in Seminole, Oklahoma. Jerry was born April 30, 1935 in Seminole, to Edward Patrick MInihan and Lona Duncan Minihan. He attended Seminole Schools and graduated in 1954. He was an outstanding athlete in all sports, but excelled in football as a wide receiver for the Chieftains and was part of the first Seminole State Championship Football Team in 1953. His outstanding catches prompted the Tulsa World Sports Writer to dub him the "Rangy Receiver." It earned him All-Conference recognition and was an All-State Alternant . Upon graduation he enlisted in the army and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He later graduated from East Central University and earned a masters degree from the University of Central Oklahoma. Jerry was a longtime educator and football coach. He coached in several area schools including Seminole and Henryetta. While coaching in Hominy, he had an undefeated season and made it to the semi-finals of the state championship playoffs. In Cleveland, his freshman football team was All-Star Conference and State Champions. In 1976 he was selected to be All-State coach for the South and won several "Outstanding Coach" awards throughout his years. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches Hall of Fame in 1995 and was inducted into the Seminole Hall of Fame 2005. He was an active member of the Catholic Church, Oklahoma Coaches Association, OEA, Seminole Alumni Association, and had been a member of Rotary Club. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Weston Minihan, two sons; Mike Minihan, and wife Becki of Wylie, Texas, Tim Minihan and wife Kim of Broken Arrow, and one daughter Jill Fielder and husband Mike of Hurst, Texas, three brothers; Ed and wife Delores of Ft. Worth, Texas, Tom and wife Janette of Seminole, and Larry and wife Kay of Seminole, his sister Judy Atyia and husband Doug of Seminole and grandchildren; Kevin Harrell and wife Jamie, Kyle Harrell, Erin Brown and husband Blake, Jeremy Minihan and wife Marissa, Josh Minihan, Adam Minihan and wife Haylee, Kaylin Bell and husband Holden, Morgan Kleine and husband Daniel, Taylor, Blaine, and Kolbe Fielder, great grandchildren; Colin and Ryan Harrell, Blair and Elena Brown, Ryder Minihan, Luke, Jude, and Anna Minihan, Henry and Benjamin Bell, and Danny Kleine. A Rosary and wake service is planned for Friday, March 9, 2018, 7:00 P.M. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Seminole, Oklahoma. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Seminole, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be grandsons Adam Minihan, Kevin Harrell, Jeremy Minihan, Josh Minihan, Blaine Fielder, and Kolbe Fielder. Honorary pallbearers will be Holden Bell, Daniel Kleine, Kyle Harrell, Blake Brown, and former football players. Final resting place will be at Maple Grove Cemetary in Seminole, Oklahoma.
