Jerry Don “J.D.” Howell, 57 year old lifelong Shawnee, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at St. Anthony Shawnee Hospital. He was born February 15, 1960 in Shawnee to parents Paul Raymond Howell and Nell (Robinson) Howell. J.D. was a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation of Oklahoma. He has also attended the Church of God in Shawnee. J.D. served in the Oklahoma National Guard. Following his service in the National Guard he worked for Southwestern paint for several years. Survivors include his mother, Nell McCalip of Shawnee, Oklahoma; three brothers, Tommy Howell and his wife Debbie of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Paul Howell and his wife Tamara Howell of Pink, Oklahoma, Ricky Keys and his wife Loretta of Shawnee, Oklahoma; six sisters, Reacie Brashears of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Cheryl Carper and her husband James of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, Jerri Hill and her husband Chuck of Greers Ferry, Arkansas, Janell Seckel and her husband James of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Cindy Hasbell of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Marie McCalip of Shawnee, Oklahoma; and a host of other family and friends. J.D. was preceded in death by his grandparents; by his father, Paul Raymond Howell who died in 2006, by his step-father who he referred to as “His Pop”, Raymond McCalip who died on March 1, 2017; by one brother, Danny Howell who died in 1984; one niece, Misty Howell, and by one nephew, Joshua Keys who died in 2012. Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2017 at Open Door Church located on Tucker Street, Shawnee, Oklahoma with Mike Barksdale officiating. Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma. Private family services will be held at a later date.
