Jennie L. “Scottie" Ross, 83, longtime Seminole resident passed from this life on Thursday, October 21, 2010. She left peacefully in her sleep after a long bout with Cancer. She was born January 16, 1927 to Wilbur and Sallie (Larney) Dirt in Seminole County. Jennie was one-half Seminole Tribe and one-half Absentee Shawnee Tribe. She attended Chilocco and Eufaula Indian Schools, then later Oscar Rose College in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Teaching, whether cultural or modern was her profession. She was a retired teacher form Seminole Public Schools. She was a lifelong active member of the Gar Creek Ceremonial Grounds; she was currently a member of the Seminole Nation General Council. Throughout her life she was involved in various committees, activities and organizations within the Seminole Nation. Preceding her in death were her parents, infant twin sons, two half-brothers and three half sisters and other relatives. Survivors are one son Ted Harjoe of Shawnee, Oklahoma and two granddaughters Sonja Harjoe and Dawn Harjoe of Shawnee, Oklahoma and five half-sisters, numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, October 25, 2010 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Harjo officiating. Burial will follow at Hitchittee Church Cemetery, with B.J. Jackson officiating the burial rites. There are no wake services planned at her request. Casket bearers will be Felix Brown, Jr., Floyd Brown, (Pvkvny) David Brown, Marcos Briggs, Charlie B. Billie, Donnie Keller, Rick Deer, Ken Chambers. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
