Jean Dale (Sexton) Akerman

Jean Dale (Sexton) Akerman , age 94 and a life-time resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at her home.

A Rosary is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church,  Konawa.  A funeral mass is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 17th at the church under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.  Fr. Joseph Duggempudi will officiate, and burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.  Pallbearers are Jesse Brogdon, Cody Goodrich, Brandon Akerman, Bryant Akerman, Kody Abbott, and Donny Roberts.  Honorary bearers are Brent Akerman, Phil Harden, and Bob Carter.  The family will receive guests from 5:00 p.m until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night at the funeral home.

Jean was born September 28, 1926 in Konawa to Tom Sexton and Maud (Barnett) Sexton.  She married Mike Akerman on September 18, 1946 at Sacred Heart.  She was homemaker and loved Christmas time and having all the grandchildren around her.  She would always make sure that someone would dress up as Santa for her favorite holiday.  Christmas time made her light up with excitement.  Jean still mowed her own yard until she was ninety years old.  She would go camping with Bob and Linda Carter at Galveston, Texas, and she knew where every Dairy Queen was located on the way for break stops.  Jean was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by all who have known her.  She loved to read western books and to watch western television shows.  She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Alter Society for many years.

She is survived by one son, Mickey Akerman and wife, Donna of Konawa; three daughters, Donna Cooley of Konawa, Linda Carter and husband, Bob of Byng, Oklahoma, and Bonnie Harden and husband, Phil of Konawa; one brother, J.T. Sexton and wife, Shirley of Konawa; one sister, Amaline Sanders of Moore, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mike Akerman on April 7, 2010; one granddaughter, Becky Odell; three brothers, Howard, Frank and Doyle Sexton; and six sisters, Iva Branscum, Pearl Campbell, Lorene Sexton, Lavonia Sexton, Juanita Thomas, and Jewell Campbell.
