Jay Gregg

Jay Vee Gregg, 87 year old lifelong Seminole and Pottawatomie County resident, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 in Seminole, Oklahoma.  He was born April 12, 1932 in Wanette, Oklahoma to parents Rosie May (Matthews) Gregg and Johnny Vernon Gregg. Jay attended Asher public schools in Asher, Oklahoma.  Later he worked in the oilfields as a driller and derrick hand for several different drilling companies, including Sloan Drilling, Sooner Drilling and Cactus Drilling. Jay loved to go coon hunting, fishing, going to auctions, gardening, singing and dancing and watching wrestling. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Sharlotte (Richardson) Gregg of the home; four sons, Larry Gregg and his wife Sheryl of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Bobby Gregg of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Jerry Gregg and his wife Linda of Wanette, Oklahoma, Keith Hames and his wife Sara of Konawa, Oklahoma; two daughters, Christean Gregg of Konawa, Oklahoma, Rose Gregg of Maud, Oklahoma; four brothers, James Gregg and his wife Kay of Asher, Oklahoma, Ellis Gregg and his wife Linda of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Paul Gregg and his wife Lessie of Meeker, Oklahoma, David Gregg and his wife Kay of Asher, Oklahoma; one sister, Tina Gregg of Asher, Oklahoma; 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends. Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Rosie Gregg by one sister, Letha Belshe and by one son, Donald Vernon “Donnie” Gregg. Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 5, 2019 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Rev. Paul Gregg and grandson Jerrod Gregg officiating the service.
