Jane Northcott

January 2, 1939 — February 3, 2014

Jane “Fvske” (Coker) Northcott, 75 year old Seminole, Oklahoma resident passed from this life on Monday, February 3, 2014 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  She was born January 2, 1939 in Seminole, Oklahoma to parents Barney Coesee Coker, Sr. and Katie Carmencia (West) Coker. Jane graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1956 where she played the saxophone in the high school band, after graduation she earn her associate degree in business.  Jane was also a proud member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, as a part of the Tusekia Harjo Band and the Tiger Clan. Jane worked for over 10 years with the B.I.A. (Bureau of Indian Affairs) at Chilocco Boarding School in north eastern Oklahoma and later for the Shawnee B.I.A. Jane then went to work for the General Motor Company in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where she worked 29 years, retiring in 2006. Retirement wasn’t for Jane.  She was very fluent in her native language.  She taught Native American Language classes through Seminole State College in Seminole when it was still known as Seminole Junior College. Jane was also a very active member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma.  She served on numerous committees such as the Judicial Committee, Princess Committee, the Tribal Enterprise Board, the Election Board, and the General Council.  She gave of her time assisting many of the Princess’ during Seminole Nation Days. Jane also had a passion for patchwork that she shared with her daughter.  She also loved horses, poetry, pictures, fishing, snow skiing, dancing, trees, flowers and helping others. Above all she had a tremendous love for her family, she was always involved with family activities such as basketball, fast pitch, softball, bowling with her sisters, archery, poetry, singing, volleyball and golf. Jane loved to listen to Kitty Wells, Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. She especially loved singing in her native language.  As Senior Princess of the Seminole Tribe she was very proud to visit the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Jane was also involved with the Seminole Round-up Club, the Seminole Nation Round-up Club, she was a Girl Scout leader and was a member of the Seminole County Homemakers Club. Jane was a member of the Maud Church of God. Survivors include two sons, Tony Northcott and his wife Carolyn of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Randy Northcott and his wife Kim of Edmond, Oklahoma; one daughter, Kay Hurst and her husband Sheldon of Meeker, Oklahoma; five sisters, Margie Stalnaker of Seminole, Oklahoma, Martha Flippin of Seminole, Oklahoma, Daisy Marshall of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Juliet Hopper and her husband Joe of Seminole, Oklahoma, Rosetta Pigeon of Seminole, Oklahoma; she is also survived by three sisters-in-laws, Judy Oates of LaPorte, Texas, Janie Owens of LaPorte, Texas and Sybil Turner of Mead, Oklahoma; two brothers, Bobby Northcott of Bowlegs, Oklahoma and Richard Northcott of Seminole, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren, Carmencia Buoy of Meeker, Oklahoma, Wayland Northcott of Watts, Oklahoma, Misha Hennigh of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Tabitha Frizzell of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, Tiffany Fowler of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Cally Ward of Watts, Oklahoma, Alex Northcott of Edmond, Oklahoma, Kenzie Northcott of Edmond, Oklahoma, Hailey Northcott of Edmond, Oklahoma, Penni Canady of Watts, Oklahoma; 14 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends. Jane was preceded in death by her father, Barney Coker, Sr. and by her mother, Katie (West) Coker.  She was also preceded in death by the father of her children, Don Northcott who died on December 16, 2012; three brothers, Jessie Don Coker, Dan Coker, Barney Coker, Jr. and by one sister, Shirley Henneha. A wake service is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 10, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Bro. Joe Jones and Rev. George Harjoche officiating.  Interment will follow at the Barney Coker Cemetery west of Seminole. Casket Bearers will be: Wayland Northcott, Alex Northcott, Sheldon Hurst, Manuel Lena, Matthew Buoy, Nathan Fowler and Brad Ward. Honorary Bearers will be: Thompson Postoak, Stan Wells, Elijah Smith, Manuel Lena, Jr. and Micah Lena. Funeral services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
