James Edward Young

On Monday, January 25, 2021, James Edward Young passed away at the age of 77.  The second youngest of four boys born to Mattie and Morris Rex (Jack) Young, James was born on October 12, 1943 in Lamesa, Texas.  He spent most of his life in Oklahoma but lived abroad for many years in Asia, including several in China.  Always a hard worker and self-starter, he ran a number of successful small businesses as well as managing large construction projects involving industrial cooling towers for several years.  He loved Mexican food, BBQ, “Red Hots” cinnamon candy, extra hot jalapenos and cool Bluegrass Music. An inveterate traveler, his early journeys included many adventures on motorcycles with his brothers and friends throughout North America until he eventually traveled further afield to several parts of Asia and some of Europe.  His recent years were spent closer to home on his small cattle ranch in Seminole, Oklahoma with some donkeys, horses, dogs and quite a few wild turkeys.  It was here his heart settled and he found many friends and joys of the country life to which he had always aspired.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 22 years, Qihua Zhang; daughters, Susan Young & husband Dr. Wolfgang Sterrer and Kimberlyn Schumaker; granddaughter, Natasha; brothers, Rex & wife Martha Young, Dewey & wife Leona Young and Carey & wife Sandy Young; and many other extended family members.

The family will receive visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 27 and Thursday, January 28 at Swearingen Funeral Home, 1001 N. Milt Phillips Avenue in Seminole, Oklahoma.

A graveside service with Cliff Craig officiating will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Resthaven Gardens Cemetery, 500 SW 104th St, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73139. The service will be live streamed on the Swearingen Funeral Home Facebook page. An online memorial service through Facebook or YouTube will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb 6, 2021 from Northridge Church of Christ in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
