James Curtis Wilkins, passed unexpectedly in Little Oklahoma on his birthday October 17th, 2021 at the age of 41.
Curt, the son of James and Christine (Ayers) Wilkins Douglas, was born October 17, 1980 in Shawnee. He graduated high school at Bethel Acres High School with the class of 1999. On April 18th, 2008, he married the love of his life, Mary Davis at the Paden First Baptist Church. Curt and Mary settled in the Little area, where he owned and operated Wilkins Ranch. Curt enjoyed the outdoors more than anything except Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners
Curt was a gentle giant, at 6’ 4” and 285 pounds, he could pull a calf, work a field and advise his fellow ranchers about ailments their livestock suffered from, all the while taking care of his kids as well as any number of neighbor kids who gravitated to him. He was a great father, when Mary’s work kept her for long hours, Curt stepped in, taking the kids to school, or to dance or football practice. A rancher, he was always willing and able to help his kids with their goats and heifers that they took to live stock shows. Mary was the love of his life, a prankster; Curt was constantly pushing her buttons and loved doing it. He was the life of the party. For anyone who knew him briefly or a lifetime, it is said that Curt never met a stranger. With a friendly smile and a chuckle he would drop what he was doing to help anyone. During tough times for his family he was the glue that held everyone together. Curt was a lifelong bird hunter. He loved breeding and raising German Short-haired Pointers and Beefmaster cattle. He and his son Curtis enjoyed training the puppies and working them into bird dogs.
Curt was an electrician by trade; however his love for animals and the outdoors took his life down another path. Curt was a farmer and rancher. He operated Wilkins Ranch, specializing in Beefmaster cattle; Curt was active with the Jr BBU, Beefmasters Breeders United, an organization devoted to raise and promote cattle of the Beefmaster breed.
His presence and character will be sorely missed.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents James and Juanita Wilkins, Curtis and Lavon Ayers, and his Uncle, Larry Husted, Stepfather James Dickenson, Stepbrother Jason Dickenson.
Curt is survived by his wife Mary Elizabeth Wilkins; his son Curtis Gene and Daughter Cheyenne Elizabeth; his parents Jim Wilkins and Connie Mathews, Christie Ayers Douglas and Roger Douglas; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Steven and Brittany Wilkins, and Kevin and Shelby Wilkins; his niece, Aubrey and nephews, Aydan Parent, and Jonathan and Jason Wilkins; step-brothers; Chad and Kevin Mathews, stepsisters; Holly Green and Shelly Douglas, his aunts and uncles; Dr. Glenn and Landa Davis, Laura Ayers, Susan and Curtis Maxwell, cousins; Dr. Ryan Davis, Leslie Davis, Drew Davis, Mandy Stapp, Caleb Amerson, Brandy Thomas and Kaylee Hill, and his closest friends and business partners, Cacy Wood and Kevin Stapp.
