Jack James Guinn, longtime resident of Maud, Oklahoma passed from this life on August 18, 2009 at the age of 78 years old. He was born November 4, 1930 at Ray City south of Maud to parents James Wiley Guinn and Ethel Gracie (Mitchell) Guinn. Jack graduated from Maud High School in 1948. Following his graduation Jack served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Jack also attended Seminole State College for two years. On November 28, 1954 he married the love of his life Billie Joan Ledbetter in Carr City, Oklahoma near Maud. The couple moved to Corpus Christi, Texas and started a family. They had two sons Billy Jack and Kevin. They were married for 15 years before Joan became ill and passed away at the age of 32. Following Joan’s death Jack and the boys returned to Maud in July of 1972. Jack worked for Big Chief Drilling Co., Sun Tide Refinery and then Sun Oil Company for 33 years until he retired on May 1, 1989. He then went to work for Barton Wood Co. and later worked for Blue Star Petroleum. Jack continued to work until he was 75 years old. Even though Jack was officially retired he managed to keep busy on the farm where he and Kevin worked in their hay fields. Jack was affiliated with Trinity Baptist Church in Maud. Jack was always the “Life of the Party,” he would light up any room he entered with his infectious smile and laugh. He will always be remembered for his kindness, quick wit and good-natured ribbing. Jack leaves to cherish his memory his two sons, Kevin Guinn of Maud, Oklahoma, B.J. Guinn and his wife Cindy of Shawnee, Oklahoma, one brother and sister-in-law, Eugene “Gene” and Mary Mae Guinn of Maud, four grandchildren Jarrett Guinn and his wife Ashley of Norman, Oklahoma, Jessica (Guinn) Novotny and her husband Dave of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Beau Guinn of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Megan (Guinn) Williams and her husband Josh of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; three great-grandchildren, Drew Guinn, Asher Guinn and Jett Novotny; Jack is also survived by a host of other dear family and loving friends. Jack is preceded in death by his parent s James Wiley and Ethel Gracie Guinn and his beloved wife Billie Joan (Ledbetter) Guinn. Cremation services are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud, Oklahoma. The family plans a private service as per Jack’s wishes.
