J. D. Tigner

John D. Tigner, 88, lifelong Seminole resident died Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the Seminole Care & Rehabilitation Center in Seminole. J. D. was born February 9, 1922 in Seminole, to John Devore and Mary Selena (Dueese) Tigner. J.D. owned and operated Tigner Welding Service for over fifty years and retired in 1996. Welding was his life; he met his wife Ione in Vancouver, Washington during World War II where they both worked as welders at the U.S. Navy Shipyard from 1943-1945. They were married there on August 21, 1944. J. D. was a member of the Cheyarha Presbyterian Church in Seminole. He grew up and attended schools in the Seminole area, country schools like, Mountain View, Butner and Ferguson Schools. He loved his family and enjoyed spending his spare time with them, He always said “ Family First”.  J.D. and Ione both loved to go “ Square Dancing” and traveling. He loved fishing, auctions, gardening and welding. The family will miss him greatly. J. D. is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ione Tigner of the home in Seminole, one son Johnny Tigner of Seminole, two daughters and a son-in-law, Carol Hines and Patricia and Mike Porter all of Seminole. He is also survived by his grandchildren Stacy Raines and her husband Nathan, Christy Baguio and her husband Nick, Tony Tigner and his wife Tammy, Jefferey Hines, Tim Porter and his wife Amy, Kimberly Villasana and her husband Alex, Emily and Brandon Anderson and Brandi Tigner. His great grandchildren that survive him are, Shelby and Jessie Raines, Cameron, Gabriel and Ty Baguio, Alexis, Joslyn, Alivia and Julian Tigner, Trevor and Braden Porter. A sister Beulah Grace of Seminole, Oklahoma, also survives him. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son David Tigner, Daughter-in-law, Johnna Tigner, Son-in-law Earl Hines and a grandson Carlton Hines and several brothers and sisters. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David McDougal officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, east of Seminole.
