J. D. Sherwood

J. D. Sherwood, age 83 and a long-time resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away from this life on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at his home. Funeral services are schedule for 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 24th at the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Konawa under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Konawa.  Rev. Mona Faulks will officiate.  Pallbearers are Kenneth Yott, Matt Dean, Kevin Lane, David Lane, Austin Lane, and Russell Yott. J. D. was born on April 1, 1927, in Caney, Oklahoma to Sam and Edith (McBride) Sherwood.  He married Faye Evelyn Finch on March 29, 1952 at the Pentecostal Holiness Church Parsonage in Konawa.  J. D. worked as a mechanic for Roy Serber’s Motor Co. in Konawa until 1991.  He served in WWII and received an American Area Campaign Medal and a WWII Victory Medal. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Faye Sherwood of the home; one daughter, Janet Yott and husband, Kenneth of Konawa; two brothers, Melvin Sherwood of Altus, Oklahoma, and Sam Sherwood of San Jose, California; two sisters, Inez Mullins of Sherman, Texas, and Ruby Plasterer of Mesa, Arizona; and two granddaughters, Breanne and Samantha Yott. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Edith Sherwood; one daughter, Marilyn Elaine Sherwood Page; and one sister, Dorothy Palmer.
