Isla Mae Phillps,91, longtime Seminole resident, died Friday, September 5, 2014 in Seminole, Oklahoma. She was born March 9, 1923 in Boise City, Oklahoma, to Flora ( Hughes) and B. J. Hennington, Sr. The Family moved to Seminole when Isla Mae was ten years old. Isla Mae primarily was a homemaker, taking very good care of her family, but also was the family accountant for the family businesses. She is remembered as an excellent cook, for her dinner rolls and desserts, a faithful wife, mother, loving grandmother and the best mother-in-law one could ask for. She also loved her dogs, and had a love for all animals, including feeding raccoon’s and neighborhood cats and dogs. She attended the First Presbyterian Church for many years and was the church organist there. She also played the organ to help other churches in Seminole and Wewoka, including the First Methodist Church in Seminole, where she later attended. She was a member of the American Guild of Organists’ for over 40 years. Isla Mae was a member of “Selectones Singing Group” and traveled around the state where they performed at different functions. She was also an accomplished artist as seen in her many paintings. Isla Mae was also a longtime member of the P.E.O. in Seminole. Mrs. Philllips is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Noah Jefferson (Jay) Phillips 3rd and his wife Laurie Phillips of Seminole, one brother, B.J. Hennington, Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama. Sister-in-law Nellita Molloy of Seminole, she is also survived by her eight grandchildren Connie (Phillips) King and her husband Donny King, Kerry Causey and his wife Lynn Causey, Kevin Causey, Debbie Causey and Deanna (Causey) Morrison and her husband Jerry Morrison; twelve great grandchildren; Austin King, and his wife Carly, Darah King, Matthew Causey and his wife Nicole Causey, Mackenzie ( Causey) Barrett and her husband Micha Barrett, Cody Causey, Jordan Kerr, Jay Randal ( Boomer) Pierce, Caden Pierce, Josh Causey, Nick Causey, Jerry Ray Morrison, Ryan Morrison and Garrett Stuteville; great- great grandchildren, Treyson Kerr and Malacli Barrett and Lyla Morrison; nephews and nieces Pat Molloy, Judy Phillips of Seminole, Oklahoma, Terry Don Phillips, Casey Phillips of Seminole and Linda Crumbliss, Catherine McCartney, B.J. Hennington, III, and a great nephew, B.J. Hennington IV and by very special friends, Shannon Duchanne, her caregiver, Tonya Rollins, and Melvin and Jasmine Moran, all of Seminole. Isla Mae was preceded in death by her parents, her husband N.J. Phillips, Jr. and one grandson, Jay Carl Phillips. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at the Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma with Rev. Sanford Griggs. Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole. Casket bearers will be Kerry Causey, Donny King, Austin King, Jerry Morrison, Boomer Pierce, Josh Causey, Nick Causey, Ryan Morrison and Cody Causey. Honorary bearers will be Melvin Moran, Cecil Sullivan, B.J. Hennington, Jr. and Pat Malloy. The family will have a reception at the home on Mr. and Mrs. Jay Phillips, after the funeral and burial services, located on North/South 3600, approximately 4 miles north of the Old Breedlove’s Store, off Highway # 9.
