Iris Bumgarner

Iris Vivian (Turley) Bumgarner, 85 year-old longtime Seminole resident passed from this life surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at her home in Seminole.  She was born January 6, 1926 in Bristow, Oklahoma to parents Ira Turley and Nellie (Rector) Turley. Iris married Leonard Bumgarner and together they made their home in Seminole. Mrs. Bumgarner worked for 43 years as a cook at Good Hope Grade School and Varnum High School at the same time.  At the same time she worked part-time at St. Crispins Episcopal Church Camp for 20 years. Mrs. Bumgarner was a devoted Christian lady with a strong faith in God, She donated the land where the Varnum Methodist Church, now Congregational Methodist Church sits, on Good Hope Road , where she was a faithful member. She was also one of the first inductees into the Varnum High School Hall of Fame. Mrs. Bumgarner is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Bumgarner; her father, Ira Turley; her mother, Nellie (Rector) Turley; six sisters, Betty McKinney Rush, Daisy Stone, Irene Wade, Freida Cobb, Dot Sexton and Lela Murphy; five brothers, Everett Turley, Arthur Turley, Vernon Turley and twin brothers, Roy Turley and Troy Turley. Iris was the last survivor of the 12 children. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Connie Bumgarner of O’Dell, Texas; one daughter, Linda Conway of Seminole, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Sonny Conway of Seminole, Oklahoma, E.B. and his wife Erin Feldmann of Fayetteville, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Zac Conway of Seminole, Oklahoma, Troop Feldmann and Storm Feldmann of Fayetteville, Texas; and a host of other family and dear friends including the home health care nurses who took such outstanding care of her and Faith Hospice nursing staff who gave special care through her final days. Carl Whitfield officiated the funeral service and Interment followed at Little Cemetery. The family request that donations be made to the Seminole Animal Shelter Humane Society in Memory of Iris Bumgarner to cover adoption fees for those wishing to adopt a pet.  The address is P.O.
