Hyatt E. Cayton

Hyatt E. Cayton, 85 year old longtime Seminole, Oklahoma businessman and civic leader, passed from this life on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at his home in Seminole surrounded by his loving family.  He was born April 18, 1930 in Aurora, North Carolina to parents, Hyatt K. Cayton and Martha M. (Swain) Cayton. Hyatt attended Aurora, North Carolina Public Schools and graduated from Patterson Park High School in Baltimore, Maryland. Hyatt retired from the United States Air-force with 20 years of service.  He had earned the rank of Master Sergeant and had served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Hyatt enlisted in the Air-force on October 5, 1946, and retired November 1, 1966. On July 2, 1948 he married Patricia Ann Stewart in San Angelo, Texas. The couple moved to Seminole in April 1973 when they opened the Western Auto Associate Store.  They closed the Western Auto Store in 1986 and Hyatt became associated with Century 21 Blue Ribbon Realty in 1987 where he worked until his retirement in 2003. Hyatt was also very community oriented serving as Past President of Seminole Lions Club and he was very actively involved in all of their events.  He was also a member of the First Church of God in Seminole since 1976 (now known as Heartland Family Church).  Hyatt also enjoyed photography and computer technology. As you have read, Hyatt E. Cayton was truly a man of integrity and a very organized individual who loved God, Country, his Community and his family with all that he had.  He will truly be missed. Hyatt leaves to cherish his memories, one son, Hyatt J. Cayton of Seminole; eight grandchildren, Meagan M. Robertson, Jessica R. Robertson, Cori L. Graham, Hyatt Christopher Cayton, Gabrielle Letizia Cayton, Larra Mackenzie Cayton, Amber Harris and Bryan Harris, all of Seminole; three great-grandchildren, Jaden Lane Orsburn, Mackenzie Jade Orsburn and Toby Orsburn all of Seminole; one sister, Martha Rebecca McCartin of White Hall, Maryland; and a host of other family and dear friends. Hyatt was preceded in death by his parents, Hyatt K. Cayton and Martha M. (Swain) Cayton; by his wife of almost 61 years, Patricia A. (Stewart) Cayton on February 4, 2009, by two daughters, Ruth M. Harris, and Annamarie M. Robertson, by one great-grandson, Aiden Robertson, and by one brother, David Cayton. Memorial Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel located at 1001 N. Milt Phillips in Seminole, Oklahoma with Roger Brewer officiating the service. Per Hyatt’s request he was entombed at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens Mausoleum next to his wife Patricia Cayton on Thursday, March 10, 2016 in Seminole, Oklahoma. The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Seminole Lions Club in Memory of Hyatt E. Cayton at P.O. Box 1217, Seminole, Oklahoma 74868.
