Howard J. Byerly, 83, longtime Seminole resident, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013 in Seminole, Oklahoma. Howard was born July 26, 1930 in Sasakwa, Oklahoma to William Samuel and Mossie (Sisk) Byerly. Howard moved to the Little Community in Seminole county from Shawnee 27 years ago. Howard retired from Shell Oil Company in 1986. While working as a surveyor and permit man for Shell, the family lived and worked in five different states. Howard was a member of the Church of Christ in Little, Oklahoma, where he served as a elder and deacon in the church. Howard loved to do the Lord’s work. He enjoyed his family, horses and country music. Howard was a member of the “ Thursday Band” and the “Too Old to Die Young Band”. Howard served in the U.S. Army from 1951-53. Howard married Dixie Ellis on January 20, 1951 in Earlsboro, Oklahoma. Howard is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dixie Byerly of the home in Seminole, Oklahoma, his three sons, Michael Byerly, of Enid, Oklahoma, David Byerly of Elm City, North Carolina and Kirk Byerly of Ft. Worth, Texas; his three grandsons, Beau Byerly, Brit Byerly and Russell Byerly. His parents, his brother Alfred and sisters Pearl, Dollye, Alva and Kay preceded him in death. Funeral services are planned for 3:00 P.M., Friday, August 23, 2013 at Church of Christ in Little, with Rusty Dawson officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Trent Tiger. Daniel Ellis, Douglas Morris, Beau Byerly, Brit Byerly, and Russell Byerly. Honorary bearers will be Brian Ellis, Larry Vickers, Tex Gliechman and Roy Boydstun.
