Herman Preston Wilson, 85, longtime Seminole resident, passed away Friday, January 13, 2017 at his home in Seminole, Oklahoma. Herman was born November 28, 1931, to Virgil and Bernice (Bandy) Wilson in rural Ada, Oklahoma. Herman moved to Seminole 53 years ago, from Ada, Oklahoma, with his family. He owned and operated his own dump truck and did construction work before he became a life insurance agent for Home State Life Insurance Company in 1961. The company later changed to American General Life Insurance Company where he retired in 1978. Herman served his country in the United States Army and attained the rank of Private First Class. He served during the Korean War for 3 years in an artillery division. Herman was a longtime member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Seminole, where he had served as a deacon, music director and taught Sunday school classes for over 40 years. He loved his Lord and Savior and was a faithful servant. Herman was a family man and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him tremendous joy. He enjoyed working in his yard and was an avid sports fan, especially watching the Sooners and Chieftains. Herman married Elsie Willoughby Wilson on July 13, 1956 in Oil Center, Oklahoma. Herman is survived by his wife of 60 + years, Elsie Wilson of Seminole, Oklahoma, his son and daughter-in-law, David and Cindy Wilson of Seminole and his daughter Judy Chaffin of Seminole; five sister-in-law’s, Frances Wilson of Okemah, Oklahoma, Laura Jeannie Wilson of North Pole, Alaska, Lavell Nelson of Broken Arrow, Bonnie Lee of Ada, Sue Yeargan and her husband Larry of Pauls Valley; one brother-in-law, Leroy Willoughby of Oil Center; three grandchildren, Mandy Adcock of Sanger, Texas and her husband Kevin Adcock, Nicole Whisenhunt of Bentonville, Arkansas and her husband Eric Whisenhunt, Christopher Wilson of New Orleans, Louisiana and his wife Kaitlin Wilson; seven great-grandchildren, Jake and Jaden Adcock, Addison and Aiden Whisenhunt, Nehemiah, James and Asher Wilson. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Bernice Wilson, his daughter, Karen Deann Wilson, four sisters; Verlie Anderson, Beulah Richardson, Ruby Brandon and Geraldine Porter, three brothers; Leonard Wilson, Glenn Wilson and Jerry Wilson. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Seminole First Freewill Baptist Church in Seminole, Oklahoma, with his son, David Wilson, officiating at the service. His grandchildren will serve as casket bearers. Burial will follow with military honors at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, east of Seminole, Oklahoma.
