Herbert Duaine “Herb “Williams, 80, longtime Seminole resident, died Thursday, February 15, 2018 in Seminole, Oklahoma. Herb was born on August 14, 1937 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to Wiley Wesley Williams and Jessie Jewel (Kiker) Williams. Herb grew up in Wewoka and attended New Lima Schools and graduated from New Lima High School. Herb went to work at Tinker Air Force Base after high school graduation and worked until his father passed away. He then moved back to Wewoka, Oklahoma and went to work for Seminole County as an equipment operator from 1959 to 1965. In 1965 he went to work for the Oklahoma State Highway Department when Interstate 40 was being built. Herb worked on the highway between Shawnee, Oklahoma and Henryetta, Oklahoma, and then helped maintain that section of highway for a few years. After leaving the highway department, Herb started his own business, Herb Williams Backhoe and Heavy Equipment Service that he owned and operated for 20 years.  In 1994, Herb was elected to serve Seminole County as County Commissioner for District # 1, based out of Konawa, Oklahoma and retired from that position in 2015. Herb loved attending church and serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Herb began serving as a deacon at his home church at the age 19. He served as deacon for several years at the First Assembly of God Church in Wewoka, Oklahoma. He and his family moved to Seminole and he served as a deacon in the First Assembly of God Church in Seminole for 22 years. Herb loved people and helping anyone in need. He never liked to fuss or argue with anyone, if he did not approve of what you were saying or doing he would stay away from you. Herb liked to tease the people he liked. Herb was a hard worker and provided well for his family. He will be missed by those who loved him Herb married Agnes Tyler Williams on October 10, 1958 at the Bethel Church, south of Wewoka, Oklahoma. Herb is survived by his loving wife Agnes Williams of Seminole, Oklahoma, one daughter and son-in-law Latricia Diane and Randall Robinson of Seminole, Oklahoma, one brother Bob Williams of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma,  and his grandson Matt Williams of Seminole, Oklahoma, he is survived by other family members that include three brothers-in-law, Roy Tyler of Stratford, Oklahoma and Bob Tyler and John Tyler both of Ada, Oklahoma, two sisters-in-law, Patricia Goins of Oregon and Virginia Story of Tennessee. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Lyndel Dewayne Williams and his daughter Lori Denise Williams, his brother Glenn Williams, brothers-in-law, W.C. Tyler, Carrell Tyler and Bert Tyler, sister-in-law Emozett Phillips, father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Dorfie Tyler. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Monday, February 19, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Seminole at 420 Reid Street, with Rev. Matthew Pool and Rev. Chris Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends and family for a visitation on Sunday evening, February 18, 2018, from 5 to 7 P.M. at the Swearingen Funeral Home. Casket bearers will be Russell Yott, Bob Walker, Terry Phillips, Rickey Russell, Gene Goodnight and Mike Porter. Honorary bearers will be Bill McDonald, Bob Lankford, Ronnie Tyler, Ron Frederick and Robert Foxx. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
