Hazel Cheville Webb was born on September 26, 1918 in Oklahoma City, Okalhoma. She is the youngest daughter of Robert and Clara Booth, who at the time Hazel was born already had 3 sons and another daughter. After Hazel's mother died at an early age Robert Booth remarried and went on to have 3 more daughters with Hazel's step mother. Needless to say, Hazel was the go between child for peace making and negotiations for the then large "Booth"" clan consisting of 8 children. rnrnHazel attended Central High School in Oklahoma City. She fell in love with and married a young man who worked on a milk route for her father. Sherman Webb and Hazel married in 1936 in a Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. After some years of marriage WWII called Sherman away to war leaving Hazel at home and pregnant. During the time Sherman was in Germany, Hazel had her one and only child Robert Webb. rnrnWhen Sherman came back to Oklahoma City from the war he moved his young family to a farm in Dibble, Oklahoma. Finding farming a hard way to make a living he started a family operation of raising chickens. He would raise the chickens and then dress them and deliver them to customers of his old milk route in Oklahoma City. During this time he felt the calling of the Lord to become a preacher. He became an ordained Freewill Baptist preacher and organized the first Freewill Baptist Church in Lindsey, Oklahoma. From this point on Hazel became a pastor's wife helping the Rev. Sherman Webb pastor churches in Lindsey, Wewoka, Calvin, Stigler, Hanna, Tulsa and Wetumka. Hazel and Sherman retired in Seminole, Oklahoma. After Sherman passed away Hazel moved to Pauls Valley, Oklahoma where she lived close to her granddaughter, Denise Webb. She moved to The Van Buren House to be nearer her son and daughter-in-law Robert and Denise Webb in McAlester. She also has the added bonus of having her grandsons Rodney Webb and Troy Stephens and their families in McAlester. She also, had four great grandchildren in McAlester. Her favorite thing is visiting with her family and slipping out and eating Mexican food as often as she can. rn Funeral Information: July 2, 2008, 2:00 AM
