Hazel Stevens

Hazel Grace Stevens, 96, longtime Seminole resident, died Tuesday, December 22, 2015 in Seminole. Hazel was born May 19, 1919 in in Shamrock, Texas, to David Jack and Sarrah Francis (Villines) Carriger. Hazel was a homemaker for most of her adult life . She was a loving mother  and always believed that family was most important thing in her life. During World War II she worked in the shipyards in Oakland, California as a Journeyman Burner, welding on ships for the U.S. Navy.  In her 80’s, she babysat her two grandchildren until they started school. She was always known for her great cooking. She was active for over 30 years at First Assembly Women’s Ministry, very active in church and was currently a member of Immanuel Fellowship Church in Seminole, Oklahoma. She married Rex Stevens on December 23, 1946 in Gainesville, Texas and he preceded her in death in 1988. She is survived by her two daughters, Patty Stevens Timmons and her husband Rickey of Seminole, Oklahoma, and Lorri Stevens Gustin and her husband Tony of Ada, Oklahoma, two grandchildren, AJ Gustin and Torri Grace Gustin of Ada, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers; Oscar, Otho and Elmer Carriger and an infant brother, and three sisters, Jewel Drumright, Gladys Mitchell and Rebecca Gilreath and a brother-in-law James Stevens. Funeral services are planned for 10:00 A.M., Saturday, December 26, 2015 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Pastor Tim Tate officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery. Casket bearers will be, Kevin Taylor, Collin Taylor, Drew Taylor, Mitchell Hennen, Lee Sudduth, and Chris Casey. Honorary casket bearer will be Doug Stevens.
