Hazel “Kathleen” (Hammond) Pierson, age 91 and a resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away from this life Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at her home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa. Charlie Henthorn will officiate and burial will follow at Little Cemetery. Casket bearers are Joe Morgan, Ty Huckleberry, Kent Winters, Roy Hicks, Mark Wright, and Tommy Sexton. Honorary casket bearers are Zach Pierson, Jeremiah Pierson, Chris Crane, Tim Sanders, Tony Sanders, Mikey Woodrum, and Steven Gentry. Kathleen was born July 13, 1924 in Bristow, Oklahoma to Floyd Hammond and Nancy (Creps) Hammond. She attended school in Oilton and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Konawa. She married Ace Pierson November 21, 1944 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Kathleen was a cafeteria cook for the Konawa schools, and she loved gardening, painting, creating ceramics, and taking care of people. She is survived by two sons, David Pierson and wife, Rowena of Konawa, and Dwayne Pierson of Hinton, Oklahoma; one daughter, Deana Sanders and husband, Paul of Konawa; one daughter-in-law, Marcy Walker of Konawa; one sister, Barbara Byrd of St. Paul, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Kari Gentry, Amanda Woodrum, Chris Crane, Tim Sanders, Tony Sanders, Teresa Gardner, Zacharia Pierson, and Jeremiah Pierson; and nineteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Nancy Hammond; husband, Ace Pierson; one brother, Floyd Hammond, II; one sister, Helen Sperling; four step-children, Jane Horton, Orvelene Ragsdale, Acelene Dorset, and Willis Pierson.
