Hattie M. Coker Cole Hattie M. Coker Cole, lifetime resident of rural Pleasant Grove School community southwest of Seminole passed away February 18 , 2013 at her home. She was born May 2, 1930 in Seminole, OK to Richmond W. and Emma Sewell Coker. Her late grandfather, Dave Coker, was one of the Seminole Nation Light Horsemen in Indian Territory. She was a member of the Seminole Nation Ocese Band and the Deer Clan. She was baptized on June 23, 1959 at the First Indian Presbyterian Church of Wewoka where she served as a Treasurer and an Elder. She is survived by her children: Ella M. and Al Colman of Seminole; Gary and Tojunia Cole of Oklahoma City; Richard Cole and Ronnie Cole of the home. Her eight grandchildren include: Christina Cole of Oklahoma City; Chad Cole and Ashley Cole of Konawa; Trevor Cole and his wife Tru of Chandler; Chase Cole of Wagoner; Cassandra Cole, U. S. Navy, presently stationed at Meridian, Mississippi; and Lainey Cole and Casey Cole of Seminole. Great-grandsons include: Michael G. Cole of Oklahoma City; Austin Satepauhoodle of Seminole; and, Greyson Long of Holdenville. Her step-daughter Beverly and husband Joe Manley of McLoud; Step-grandsons Terrance Manley of McLoud and Joe J. Manley of Ada and 5 great-grandchildren. She graduated from the Carr City Elementary School, completed 10th – 11th grade at Bowlegs High School and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School as Valedictorian of her Class. She later graduated from Draughon’s Business School of Oklahoma City. In her early years, she worked at the Sylvania Plant in Shawnee; Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa; Bookkeeping Department of Ford Motors Company and Wrangler in Seminole; Pioneer Abstract in Wewoka and in Medical Records at the Wewoka Hospital. Later, she began her federal career with the Selective Service Board in Shawnee and retired from the Indian Health Service, Shawnee, OK in June 1992 as a Contract Health Services Specialist. During her federal career, Ms. Cole received numerous outstanding performance awards. After retirement, she served on the Seminole Nation Personnel Board and the Wewoka Service Unit Health Advisory Board. As a former basketball player in grade school and high school, Ms. Cole was an avid Oklahoma City Thunder basketball and OU basketball and football fan. In her early years, she played independent softball as a short stop up until her early 40’s. Her past hobbies include sewing, quilt making, and fabric art. She was a humble woman who had a compassionate, forgiving and caring manner towards others. She demonstrated excellent work ethics throughout her life and taught her children work and Christian ethics, traditional values and the Seminole way of life. She loved family gatherings with her children, grandchildren and other relatives. She was known for her lemon meringue and banana cream pies and chicken and dumplings. She loved God, Jesus Christ, and her Church family. Her kindness, beautiful smile, laughter and joking mannerism will truly be missed.
