Glenda Sue Massay

August 4, 1937 — March 31, 2012

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Glenda Sue (White) Massay, 75, who died March 31, 2012 after a long illness will be held Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole at 2:00 p.m.  Rev. Jim Coone officiating.  Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole.  Mrs. Massay was born in Seminole at Harbor Hospital on August 4, 1937 to Glen A. and Kate (Petross) White.  She graduated from Seminole High School in 1955 and attended Seminole State College and East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma where she completed her associate degree.  She married her High School sweetheart Bob L. Massay on August 31, 1956 at the First Presbyterian Church in Seminole.        Mrs. Massay lived all her life in Seminole where she worked as a Service Representative for Southwestern Bell, Office Manager for Glen’s Plumbing, Director of the Student Union at Seminole Junior College, Head Teller and Assistant Cahier for First State Bank, and retired as the Director for St. Crispin’s Episcopal Conference Center after serving there for twenty-two years.    Massay, one of the first women ordained in the First Presbyterian Church of Seminole where she served as Ruling Elder, Clerk of Session, Treasurer, and sang in the choir for many years.  She also sang in the Selectones, a women’s choir in the 1970’s.  She was Treasurer and Board member for the Tri-City Substance Abuse Center from 1987 to present and served on the Executive Committee of the Seminole High School Alumni Association. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  Her hobbies included sewing, arts and crafts, genealogy, and cooking.  She was preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law Paul D. Trammell and great grandson, Trenton A. Godwin. Survivors include her husband, Bob Massay, sons Dan and Scott Massay of Seminole; one daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Ron Deatherage of Seminole; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Jeannie Massay of Edmond; one brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Vicky White and nephews Brent and Brian White of Seminole; Brothers-in-law, Billy and Jean Massay and family of New Jersey; John and Dee Massay and family of Grand Lake; Jim and Susan Massay and family of Tulsa; grandchildren Tyler, Katie, and Tanner Trammell; Heather and John Gordon, Rachel Massay; and special friend of the family Don Gill. The casket will be open until service time. Arrangements under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Inc., in Seminole Send memorial gifts to Interfaith Social Ministries or the Massay Family S.H.S.
