Gladys Pruitt, age 99 and a long-time resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Seminole Care and Rehab Center in Seminole, Oklahoma. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 4th at the First Baptist Church of Konawa. Burial will follow at Konawa Cemetery. Rev. Jim McMillan will officiate and pallbearers are Chris Sharp, Jim Sharp, Marvin Patterson, Robert Roulston, Jimmy Tooley, and Darrell Mackey. The family will receive guests at Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa on Thursday night from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Gladys was born on October 19, 1914, in Madill, Oklahoma to John T. and Annie Hargis. She graduated Madill High School and married Robert Pruitt in Oklahoma City on September 20, 1933. Gladys was one of the last surviving charter members of the First Baptist Church of Konawa, and she was actively involved in the church as a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Progressive Study Club. She was also a member of the Eastern Star organization. She is survived by one son-in-law, Floyd Clayton of Konawa; one grandson, Jack T. Gorczyca, III and wife, Patty of Harrah, Oklahoma, and one great grandson, Thad Gorczyca, of Harrah, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Pruitt; her parents, John and Annie Hargis; and only child, Katherine Clayton.
