Gettie Joybell “Joy” Barlow Anderson, 82, longtime resident of Seminole, Oklahoma, passed away in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on February 4, 2022. A Christmas baby, Joy was born December 25, 1939, in Seminole, Oklahoma to Frances “Frank” Melton Welliver and Mary E. (Barrett) Welliver.
Joy grew up in Seminole County, Oklahoma and attended Varnum Public Schools where she became a graduate of the Class of ’57. Joy worked many years at the Wrangler plant in Seminole, Oklahoma where her claim-to-fame was “sewing the zipper in George Strait’s pants.” As a country music fan, many know, Joy’s favorite song was Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus.
On January 2, 2002, Joy happily married Glenn Dale Anderson and lovingly bossed him around for the next 20 years. They share many precious memories together. Aside from her sassy attitude, Joy was also known for her love of crocheting. Members of her family always knew their Christmas present would consist of a warm blanket in their favorite colors and newborns in the family always had a hat to come home from the hospital in.
Joy is preceded in death by her parents and stepson Eric Anderson.
Left to cherish Joy’s memory is her husband, Glenn Dale Anderson of Seminole, Oklahoma, her two sons and daughter-in-laws, Clyde and April Barlow of Yukon, Oklahoma and Scott and Tammy Barlow of Shawnee, Oklahoma, her two stepsons Jimmy Anderson of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Gary Anderson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, her brother Amos Welliver of Shawnee, Oklahoma, her sisters and spouse, PJ and Gerry Fuska of Houston, Texas and Sarah Rusher of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Joy is also survived by five grandchildren and spouses, Bobbie and Rob Geisler of Glen Burnie, Maryland, Misti and Jonathan Mass of Hartshorne, Oklahoma, Cody and Heather Barlow of Wewoka, Oklahoma, Angela Barlow of Dallas, Texas and Brady Barlow of Shawnee, Oklahoma and six great grandchildren A.J. Geisler, Teagan Geisler, Patience Mass, Jonny Mass, Jett Mass and Hadley Barlow.
Graveside memorial services for Joy will be held Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 10:00am at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole, Oklahoma with Jimmy and Nita Moreland officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
