Gerald W. Smith, 91, longtime Seminole resident died, Thursday, September 12, 2013 in Seminole. Gerald was born January 20, 1922 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Everett Parker and Viola (Proffer) Smith . Gerald was a longtime Seminole businessman who owned and operated a steam-cleaning business for many years, in later years he owned coin-op laundries owning the “ Pink Laundry” for many years in Seminole. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole and was a former member of the Seminole Lions Club. Gerald also served one term on the Seminole City Council. Gerald also served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, he served in the 13th Fighter Command of the U.S. Army in New Guinea and Southern Philippines Luzon. Gerald married Theresa Sietsema on August 12, 1944 in Palo Pinto, Texas. Gerald is survived by his wife of 69 years, Theresa Smith of the home in Seminole. Two sons and daughter-in-laws, Tom and Shirlene Smith and Paul and Sandy Smith of Seminole, Oklahoma and a daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Dan Hamilton of Seminole along with grandsons Wade Smith of Stafford, Virginia and Kyle Smith of Seminole, Oklahoma and two granddaughters Shannell Smith of Mesquite, Texas and Janice Harjo and her husband Rob of Seminole, Oklahoma, Three great grandsons; Carter Riley and Kameron Riley of Mesquite, Texas, Seth Harjo of Seminole and great granddaughter Megan Harjo of Seminole. Graveside funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Maple Grove Cemetery with Military Honors. Matt Pollock will officiate.
