George Wood

July 16, 1924 — March 8, 2020

George Curtis Wood, 95 year old Margate, Florida resident, passed from this life Sunday, March 8, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.  He was  born in Vero Beach, Florida on July 16, 1924. He was the second of nine children born to parents Bert Wood and Sudie (Fennel) Wood. George served our Country in the United States Navy, earning the rank of Petty Officer, the Army, earning the rank of Captain and serving in the Korean War and World War II. On October 16, 1944 George married the love of his life, Alice Ann (Noe) Wood in Seminole, Oklahoma.  Sadly, she passed away April 28, 2007. George went on to earn his Engineering Degree and worked for General Electric as an electrical engineer in New York, Kentucky and Ohio, retiring after 36 years. He also taught engineers and volunteered at Berger Hospital in Circleville, Ohio. He volunteered at the school library in Margate, Florida. He was a Deacon and Sunday School teacher at Wesleyan Heights Methodist Church in Owensboro, Kentucky and First Baptist Church in Circleville, Ohio and was an usher at Grace Baptist Church in Pompano Beach, Florida. George enjoyed fishing, shooting and hunting, reading, listening to music and listening to his wife play the piano and organ. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Civitan Club and was helped with his son's Boy Scout Troup. He was a good man who loved God, his family, friends and country. He had a sweet, calm spirit about him with godly wisdom and common sense. George is survived by daughters; Robbin Lopez and her husband Ken of Margate, Florida and Meri Frost and her husband Lance of New Albany, Indiana, brothers; Johnny Wood and his wife Glenda and Rupert Wood, sisters; Louise Horne and Margaret Drawdy, grandchildren; Jeffrey Wood, Michael Wood, Leah Lopez Coca and Onan, Bethany Lopez Attard and Phil, Amy Lopez and Matt Dull, Andy Jones and Kate, Dan Jones and Arwan, Jill Jones and Eric, Matt Frost, Eric Frost and Lee Frost, great grandchildren; Tiffany, Talon and Tory Wood, Aubree Wood, Corban, Charlotte and Sophia Coca, Levi and Jonah Attard, Adeline Verdier, Riley and Lily Jones, Joei Declan, Brian and Jordan Wood and Attacus, Jackson and Cooper Frost. George was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Alice Ann Wood, his son Gerry Wood and grandson Gerryl Wood.  Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 12, 2020 at the Historic Strother Chapel located in Maple Grove Cemetery with Hugh Megee officiating. George will be laid to rest by his wife of 63 years. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home located in Seminole, Oklahoma.
