George Whitman Schoner passed away Monday, December 1, 2015 at the Thomas E. Creek VA Medical Center in Amarillo, Texas. He was born to the late Frank Carl Schoner and Frances (Whitman) Schoner on March 30, 1929 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. George graduated from Seminole High School and from Texas Tech University. He was a veteran of the Korean War, stationed with the artillery corps in Tokyo, Japan. George moved to Lubbock, Texas in 1960 to commence his studies at Texas Tech University and lived there most of his remaining years. He was active in Melony Park Church, the Missionary Crusader, and Exodus Ministries. He had a heart for the poor and suffering and was always ready to share his Christian testimony with those in need. He never met a stranger. George is survived by his three children and their spouses, Franci and Ian Ball of Sutten Coldfield, Birmingham, England, Paul and Carol Schoner of Signal Mountain, Tennessee , and Joseph Schoner of Cincinnati, Ohio; and by his dear cousins, David R. Tripplehorn of Dallas, Texas, and Carol (Tripplehorn) Shannon of Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Frances Schoner (1951, 1953); and his brother, Joe Schoner (1962). A private memorial burial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2016 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, Oklahoma under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. The family asks that memorials be given to the Wounded Warrior Fund in recognition of the loving care George received from the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Thomas E. Creek VA Medical Center.
